The Nevada County Jail is operated by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office in Prescott. It is the only detention facility found in official sources that supports a Nevada County local facility page. The jail is more than a booking room. It is the county's day-to-day custody point, a short-sentence facility, a warrant and hold location, and a temporary state-placement waiting point. The sheriff's jail page says the current facility opened in June 2016 after the old jail became outdated. During the research pass, the public roster showed 56 current inmates on May 29, 2026, a point-in-time count rather than an average.

Capacity and population should be read with care. A total count below 80 does not prove the jail has no operational pressure because housing category, sex-specific beds, classification, medical separation, protective custody, and outside holds can all affect where a person can be housed.

Nevada County Jail Visitation

Nevada County Jail uses video-only visitation. The official visitation page says visits are conducted on video monitors in the front lobby of the Sheriff's Office and Jail. Appointments require 24-hour advance notice. Each inmate is allowed one 20-minute visit per week. About Nevada County Jail Records
